The NOC analyzes problems, solves them, communicates with the functions involved and tracks their resolution. For more serious circumstances that are impossible to predict, e.g. a power failure or a cut fiber optic cable, the NOC implements procedures to contact engineers immediately and solve the problem.

Npo Sistemi’s NOC service

The monitoring system used for all the systems is based on a Nagios platform.
The monitoring server polls the devices and stores all the information collected in a relational database, in order to allow subsequent extraction, analysis or reporting.
Monitoring can be carried out on three levels:

  • via SNMP (Level 1): gathers the parameter data through standard protocols operating on the devices, without the use of agents. Acts exclusively in pull mode, which means that the monitoring system has to request data from the device.
  • via System Agent (Level 2): gathers system parameter data through dialog with the systems using installed agents. Furthermore, it acts in push mode, meaning that the agent sends data to monitoring system.
  • via Application Agents (e.g. SQL, Exchange, etc.) (Level 3): can dialog directly with the application, gathering internal parameter data, e.g. for a database it can monitor individual tables or transactions.

If a threshold is exceeded, the server sends an alarm to the consoles. The operator receives the alarm and takes the action required to restore the situation to complete normality.
During the service start-up phase, Npo Sistemi will determine the appropriate thresholds for the company:

  • configuring monitoring agents
  • defining critical processes
  • defining the parameters that can be monitored for each item
  • customizing the monitoring (polling intervals, thresholds, etc.)
  • defining the initial reference performance index for each system (I.P.I.)
  • defining the events for each individual parameter monitored
  • defining the operating procedures to be implemented for each individual event
